THE CHEMICAL NATURE OF THE MELANINS FROM Coprinus spp
نویسنده
چکیده
Among the Basidiomycetes the species of the genus Coprinus have black spores and hymenia that, at maturity, are transformed through autodigestion into a black or inky fluid that drops from the pileus and blackens the soil beneath the fruiting structures. The melanins from three different species of Coprinus have been characterized by spectroscopic techniques, including cross-polarization, magic-angle spinning carbon -13 nuclear magnetic resonance, and che mi cal and thermal degradations. The aliphatic moiety of these melanins is made up of fatty acids, polysaccharides, and proteins, and the aromatic part includes alkylbenzenes, alkylphenols, hydroxytoluenes, and more complex polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. It is very likely that the melanins of the Basidiomycetes, as represented by Coprinus species, contribute to soil humus formation.

Bisubstrate Kinetic Model for Enzymatic Decolorization of Reactive Black 5 by Coprinus cinereus Peroxidase
In this study, decolorization of the diazo dye, Reactive Black 5 (RB5) in a Coprinus cinereus peroxidase-catalyzed reaction has been investigated. A bisubstate kinetic model for the reaction rate based on the Ping-Pong mechanism was assumed for the enzymatic decolorization. Experiment...
متن کاملGrowth Inhibition of Aspergillus flavus Isolated from Pistachio by Secondary Metabolites
Pistachio nut is a strategic product throughout the world, especially in Iran. There are some problems that reduce production and export of pistachios, for example, postharvest fungi, especially Aspergillus spp., that lead to production of mycotoxins. Nowadays the use of chemical and synthetic antifungals is discouraged and reduced because of health risks to mankind and nature. In present study...
متن کاملFungal Melanins Differ in Planar Stacking Distances
Melanins are notoriously difficult to study because they are amorphous, insoluble and often associated with other biological materials. Consequently, there is a dearth of structural techniques to study this enigmatic pigment. Current models of melanin structure envision the stacking of planar structures. X ray diffraction has historically been used to deduce stacking parameters. In this study w...
متن کاملCo-ordinate Regulation of Enzymes Involved in Ornithine Metabolism and its Relation to Sporophore Morphogenesis in Coprinus cinereus
Arginine synthesis and urea formation via the ornithine cycle occurred in sporophore cap and stipe of Coprinus cinereus. Although urease was found at high activity in mycelium and stipe, it was not detectable in extracts of cap tissue, but arginine biosynthesis was specifically amplified during development of the cap as judged from metabolism of isotopically labelled substrates and increased en...
